New Delhi, Feb 17 (IANS): International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez will visit Mumbai from February 19 to 21, marking his first official trip to India since assuming office on January 1, 2024. During his visit, Dominguez will engage with Indian government officials, industry leaders, and the seafaring community to discuss initiatives aimed at supporting seafarers, protecting marine environments, and achieving shipping decarbonization.

Dominguez acknowledged India’s vital contribution as a key supplier of seafarers in global trade and its leadership in ship recycling and sustainable port practices. He expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with India’s maritime leaders to enhance workforce skills, promote green growth, and advance sustainable shipping practices.

As part of his itinerary, Dominguez will attend the 2025 Green Shipping Conclave at the Maritime Training Institute in Powai, where industry experts will explore topics such as alternative fuels, green technologies, and sustainable operations. His engagement includes addressing seafarers at local institutions and visiting the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), contributing to dialogues with various stakeholders.

The Green Shipping Conclave aims to underscore India’s commitment to sustainable maritime transport, focusing on green hydrogen, regulatory frameworks, and fostering international partnerships in clean energy, supported by the Indo-German Energy Forum.
