A fire erupted on Saturday in Yeosu, South Korea, involving an oil tanker and a cargo ship, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. The incident occurred while both vessels were moored side by side, prompting witnesses from nearby ships to alert the Coast Guard.
Rescue operations successfully saved all 18 crew members—14 from the oil tanker and four from the cargo ship. Unfortunately, the captain of the cargo ship was found unconscious and later pronounced dead, while two crew members from the tanker sustained burn injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The blaze was extinguished around 7:45 a.m., but concerns linger regarding the tanker, which was carrying 2,500 tons of toxic chemicals. Authorities have yet to confirm whether any of these substances leaked into the ocean.
The Coast Guard is actively looking into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire and ensure environmental safety.
