Japanese shipowner NYK Line has taken delivery of two dual-fuel X-DF2.0 engines-powered car transporters from Swiss shipping company WinGD. The state-of-the-art all-car and truck carriers, named Jasmine Leader and Wild Rose Leader, feature advanced LNG hybrid technologies and WinGD’s most comprehensive solution ecosystem to date. The ships are part of a four-person series of vessels for NYK Line, equipped with WinGD’s X-DF2.0 iCER and WiDE technologies and the X-EL Energy Manager electric power solution which expands the range of vessels that can benefit from electrification as the shipping industry strives to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

NYK Line said that the vessels, which are also equipped with an improved hull design and other fuel-saving features, will be 40% more energy efficient than conventionally powered vessels in the same NYK Line fleet. The ships exceed the current International Maritime Organization greenhouse gas emissions target for 2030 and current and future CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) requirements. WinGD has optimised the energy flow to constantly operate the main engine at the optimum point while avoiding less than ideal energy consumption, while the entire energy system is managed by the X-EL Energy Manager. The WiDE engine monitoring and diagnostic system uses a digital twin of the unique system to compare ideal and actual behaviour based on real-time operation and conditions, detecting anomalies from expected behaviour and communicating to crew and shore teams with troubleshooting and maintenance advice.
