Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has received approval from Bureau Veritas for a new floating storage and regasification unit design that incorporates a GTT membrane cargo containment system. The vessel has been designed with optimized hull lines and a 10,000 cubic metre fuel tank located below the main deck. It is equipped with GTT’s proprietary Mark III membrane technology and enables flexible, zero-carbon shipping. Shipowners and charterers can operate round-trip voyages between the Middle East, Asia and Europe with just one LNG bunkering operation.
Bureau Veritas played a critical role in the design phase of the new LNG dual-fuel VLCC, which is safe to put to sea. The new floating storage and regasification unit design meets all necessary environmental requirements, and marks an important step towards CO2 neutrality and decarbonization of the maritime industry. The new solution offers shipowners flexibility, security and compliance with the latest environmental regulations.
