The Director General of the National Port Authority (APN), Jocelin Villier, has announced new measures to combat maritime piracy and strengthen maritime security. These include the deployment of On-Board Protection Teams (EPF) composed of public security forces to escort vessels to the port, constant surveillance from the Search and Rescue Center, availability of private security and defense agencies, and heightened security around the Port of Port-au-Prince facilities. These measures are aimed at preventing and protecting against maritime piracy.
In addition to these security measures, the APN has announced that the port facilities of the International Port of Port-au-Prince will be open to cabotage for transporting goods starting from Friday, October 18, 2024. Cabotage for passenger transport will be opened at a later date, to be communicated by the General Directorate of the APN. These developments come in the wake of ongoing efforts to enhance security and efficiency in maritime operations in Haiti.
The APN aims to ensure the safety and smooth operation of maritime activities in the region, and encourages collaboration from all stakeholders to effectively combat maritime piracy and maintain a secure maritime environment.
