SMP Kolkata Signs MoUs Worth ₹36,000 Crore at GMIS-2023 in Mumbai

The Chairman of SMP, Kolkata, Rathendra Raman, signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various stakeholders at the GMIS-2023 inaugural session in Mumbai. The signing ceremony was attended by Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The economic value of the signed MoUs is over ₹36,000 crore.

The key MoUs include collaborations with NTPC for green energy and ammonia, as well as a collaboration with GRSE for the supply of environmentally friendly marine vessels. A total of 21 MoUs were signed with government agencies and private partners, focusing on port connectivity, capacity expansion, and green energy projects as part of Vision 2047.

During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Kolkata Dock System’s Rejuvenation project, with an investment of Rs 181 Crore. This project will increase the port capacity by 4.5 MMTPA and involve the full mechanization of six berths.

Overall, the signing of these MoUs and the inauguration of the Kolkata Dock System project demonstrate the commitment to developing sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure in the maritime sector, while also boosting the capacity and connectivity of ports in the region.
