EST-Floattech has successfully delivered and commissioned the Octopus Series battery system on the SFK Ferry Laboe, as part of a collaboration with Holland Shipyards Group. The Laboe ferry is equipped with 560 kWh of the Octopus High Energy system, allowing it to switch between generators and the battery system to reduce energy consumption and operate emission-free in the city of Kiel. This project reflects the shared vision of creating a cleaner, more efficient maritime industry and reducing carbon emissions.

The Octopus Series battery system optimizes energy management, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while also lowering operational costs for the SFK ferry Laboe. The system has high energy density batteries, ensuring optimal performance and a long operational life. The collaboration between EST-Floattech, Holland Shipyards Group, and Holland Ship Electric has resulted in successful integration and seamless operation of the battery system on the Laboe ferry.

The project has received positive feedback from the involved parties, with Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel impressed by the system’s design and performance, and Holland Shipyards Group and Holland Ship Electric expressing satisfaction with the integration process. EST-Floattech’s Commercial Director, Walter van der Pennen, expressed pride in being part of a transformative project that supports the goal of creating a more sustainable maritime industry and lowering emissions in and around Kiel through the use of the Octopus Series battery system.
