The ceremony, attended by key figures from Hong Kong and Mainland China’s maritime sectors, highlighted the organization’s potential to foster collaboration among local maritime businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions.

Prominent leaders in the maritime community, including HKCoS Chairman Hing Chao and former Chief Executive CY Leung, emphasized the strategic importance of the chamber. In his address, Leung pointed out that the Chinese National 13th and 14th Five-Year Plans endorse Hong Kong’s elevation as an IMC. He stated that the establishment of HKCoS symbolizes a unified recognition of the shipping community’s role in addressing national needs, while also reaffirming Hong Kong’s inherent advantages.

Chao outlined that HKCoS aims to create a sustainable ecosystem for global trade and shipping, particularly in the face of current challenges such as heightened geopolitical tensions and the urgent need for decarbonization. He stressed the importance of a synergistic relationship between the shipping and finance sectors to bolster Hong Kong’s maritime industry. Fellow founding member Li Lianjun also noted significant progress in advancing the maritime law sector, underscoring the chamber’s commitment to driving growth in the industry.
