The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is set to unveil a new logo and visual identity, as announced by Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez during the 34th session of the IMO Assembly, which took place from November 24 to December 3. This updated visual identity pays tribute to the organization’s history while positioning it to tackle the challenges of modern shipping in the 21st century.
In his closing remarks to the Assembly on December 3, Dominguez emphasized that the refreshed logo encapsulates the IMO’s steadfast commitment to promoting safe, secure, and environmentally sustainable shipping. He stressed the importance of collaboration among Member States in safeguarding both people and the planet.
The new design is rooted in the emblem that was first adopted over 77 years ago when the organization was founded as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization. While preserving this heritage, the updated logo places a stronger emphasis on the ocean’s significance in global matters. It incorporates elements from the United Nations emblem, featuring a world map framed by olive branches and anchors, along with a new font and color palette.
The logo now includes a deeper blue hue, enhancing clarity and brand recognition, while also improving accessibility for individuals with visual impairments. It will be available in all six official UN languages.
