Indian Maritime Centre Launches with New Leadership to Advance Maritime Policies

The Indian Maritime Centre (IMC) recently held its inaugural meeting, electing Devki Nandan as Chairman and Shankar Shinde as Vice Chairman. Capt Sankalp Shukla was appointed Secretary, and Capt Vikas Vij as Treasurer. R Ravi Kumar of IPPTA was named acting CEO. The board approved membership applications from ACTO and IR Class.

The Indian Maritime Centre (IMC) recently held its first meeting, during which Devki Nandan was elected as Chairman and Shankar Shinde as Vice Chairman. Capt Sankalp Shukla will serve as Secretary, and Capt Vikas Vij as Treasurer. R Ravi Kumar, Secretary General of the Indian Private Ports and Terminals Association (IPPTA), has been appointed as the acting CEO of the IMC. The board also approved membership applications from the Association of Container Train Operators (ACTO) and the Indian Register of Shipping (IR Class).

The IMC Board comprises various industry leaders, including Devki Nandan, Shankar Shinde, Capt Vikas Vij, Capt Sankalp Shukla, and others. The IMC aims to shape a unified maritime policy, represent the Indian maritime sector internationally, and act as a think tank for the industry. Devki Nandan emphasized the commitment to promoting domestic and international maritime trade, fostering economic growth, and aligning with Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kal Vision 2047.

The IMC has invited trade associations, major ports, state governments, maritime boards, organizations, companies, professionals, and stakeholders involved in maritime trade to join in its efforts. The Centre aims to collaborate for the development and implementation of maritime policies that align with global best practices and position India as a global growth engine in the maritime sector. The board also acknowledged the role of Bhushan Kumar in the formation of the IMC.
