The survey aims to gather valuable evidence for UK maritime welfare charities, offering fresh insights into the welfare needs of UK seafarers and their families. This information will help charities tailor their services, such as ship visiting, pastoral support, retirement accommodation, helplines, and advice on housing and welfare benefits, to better meet the needs of seafarers and their dependents in the future.
By participating in the survey, UK nationals working or formerly working in non-military sectors of seafaring, as well as their dependents and providers of maritime welfare services, have a unique opportunity to voice their concerns on various issues faced at sea, in port, and at home. Their input will play a crucial role in shaping the future of maritime welfare charity services, ensuring that those in need receive the necessary support and assistance during challenging times.
Participants are also encouraged to take part in one-to-one interviews or larger focus groups to further contribute to the research. It is important to note that all shared information will be strictly anonymized and kept confidential, ensuring the privacy of those involved in the survey. This initiative aims to create a platform for seafarers and their families to have a say in the development of maritime welfare services, ultimately benefiting all those in need of extra support and help.
