A maritime pilot tragically lost his life after falling into the Bosphorus in Istanbul while attempting to board a cargo vessel. The incident occurred at around 04:30 in the morning at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus as the pilot was providing pilotage services to the Cook Islands-flagged vessel “New Shiham”. Despite efforts to rescue him, the pilot was brought to the pier unconscious and transferred to the hospital, where he was unable to be revived.
The exact reason for the pilot falling into the sea remains unknown, but a sailor from the pilot boat jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him.
