Marlink has added endpoint security to its suite of cyber security tools, introducing a solution based on AI algorithms to detect and neutralise malware on mission-critical onboard computers. CyberGuard EDR offers signature and behaviour-based malware detection, ensuring suspicious devices can be isolated to protect the local network and limit the potential consequences of a cyber incident. CyberGuard EDR operates in a master/client architecture, that, even if not connected to the internet, regularly distributes signature updates to all connected clients. The solution in turn replaces SkyFile Anti Virus, which will be retired on 1 July 2023.

Ship operators can use CyberGuard EDR to implement an IT policy for all business devices on board the vessel, making it an important part of cyber hygiene. The solution’s USB device management module can be configured to force a scan on connection or limit the use of USB devices, ensuring onboard computers remain protected when external content is shared via removable drives. CyberGuard EDR offers an important capability in the cyber security framework protecting the onboard IT environment, operating specifically in satellite communications environments and optimised to meet varying maritime operational requirements.
