A mother and daughter shipping duo, Karen and Karmel Avelino, are set to run the London Marathon on April 21st to raise money for The Seafarers’ Charity. Karen, an executive committee member of InterManager, is based in the Philippines and works in shipping business development at Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC). Her daughter Karmel, a graphic designer at Carnival Corp, will be joining her for their first international marathon. The London Marathon course covers 26.2 miles and the duo are seeking sponsorship to meet the minimum entry requirements for the charity category.

Karen, with 17 years of experience in the maritime industry at PTC, has a deep connection to The Seafarers’ Charity. PTC oversees a large pool of Filipino seafarers, with over 40,000 crew members deployed on various vessels at any given time. The duo’s goal is to raise funds for maritime professionals through their participation in the London Marathon. Running under the banner of The Seafarers’ Charity is their way of showing gratitude to the seafarers they serve and support.
