The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft to support the advancement and adoption of digital technologies in the maritime sector. This collaboration will focus on leveraging technologies such as cloud computing, AI, data analytics, robotics, and cyber security to enhance efficiency and sustainability in maritime operations.

One of the key areas of focus under the MoU is the use of AI and digital twins to optimize vessel route planning, improve safety, reduce emissions, and enable just-in-time arrivals at ports. Additionally, MPA and Microsoft aim to provide training and upskilling opportunities for industry professionals to effectively implement and utilize these digital solutions in their operations.

David Foo, MPA’s assistant chief executive (Operations Technology), emphasized the importance of this collaboration in driving digitalization and sustainability efforts in the maritime industry. The partnership between MPA and Microsoft is expected to not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute towards achieving national and international emission targets, while promoting innovation and reducing business costs.
