Austal Philippines has successfully delivered a 32-meter catamaran to Rottnest Fast Ferries in less than twelve months after starting construction in Balamban, Cebu. The vessel, named ‘Ocean Master’ and designed by Incat Crowther, underwent sea trials in November 2024 before being officially accepted by representatives from Rottnest Fast Ferries. President of Austal Asia, Wayne Murray, praised the Austal Philippines team for their ability to construct high-quality vessels efficiently and quickly, exceeding expectations for productivity.
This latest delivery marks the 22nd ship completed by Austal Philippines for 13 operators worldwide, showcasing a range of catamarans and trimarans from 21 meters to 118 meters in size. The shipyard also offers through-life support services for commercial and defense vessels, including repairs, maintenance, and refits using the 100-meter floating dock, Lewek Hercules. The 32-meter aluminum catamaran, ‘Ocean Master,’ has a capacity for up to 400 passengers and 5 crew members across 3 decks, with ample cargo space for bicycles and baggage on 2 decks.
Powered by 2 x 1029kW MAN D2862 diesel engines driving fixed pitch propellers, ‘Ocean Master’ can reach speeds of up to 25 knots for the 45-minute journey between Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth and Rottnest Island in Western Australia. Austal Philippines continues to demonstrate its expertise in constructing world-class vessels with high-level designs, maintaining construction standards, and product quality in the delivery of ‘Ocean Master’ to Rottnest Fast Ferries.
