A medical evacuation took place involving the TUI Cruises vessel Mein Schiff Relax, which departed from Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands on the night of February 13-14, 2026. Shortly after leaving port, the ship’s medical team determined that a crew member required urgent medical attention that could not be provided onboard, prompting a call for external assistance.
In response, the Spanish maritime rescue service, Salvamento Marítimo, dispatched the rescue vessel Salvamar Tenerife to meet Mein Schiff Relax at sea. Upon arrival, rescue teams coordinated with the cruise ship’s officers to transfer the ill crew member to the rescue craft. This operation required careful planning to ensure the safe transfer of the patient.
Once the transfer was successfully completed, the crew member was taken to the quay at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) was ready to take over and transport the individual to a hospital for further treatment. Details regarding the crew member’s nationality, rank, or specific medical condition have not been disclosed.
This incident highlights the vital collaboration between onboard medical staff and shore-based rescue agencies, ensuring that serious health emergencies can be effectively managed soon after departure.
