The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has unveiled new regulations aimed at bolstering the recreational yachting sector. These rules mandate that all yachts operating in Saudi waters, whether local or international, adhere to stringent safety protocols. Essential safety equipment must be onboard, and crews are required to be trained for emergency situations.
Additionally, the regulations prohibit the discharge of pollutants, including waste and oils, into the sea. This initiative marks a significant step in the country’s marine tourism development and is part of a broader awareness campaign titled “More Than a Sea,” which emphasizes the importance of sustainable coastal tourism.
The framework applies to Saudi-flagged vessels, visiting yachts, and charter services, clearly defining responsibilities for yacht owners, port authorities, and crew members. Operators are expected to comply with international MARPOL guidelines, manage waste responsibly, and minimize plastic use to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems.
Moreover, the regulations prioritize passenger experience by ensuring inclusive access to recreational activities and facilities for children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, further enhancing the appeal of Saudi Arabia’s yachting offerings.
