Bhubaneswar: Balijatra, Odisha’s historic maritime festival, will make its inaugural appearance at the British Parliament this November. Organized by the Odisha Society of the United Kingdom (OSUK), the event will take place at the House of Lords on November 14, featuring a two-day program themed “Ancient Maritime Glory to Sustainable Futures.” This celebration will unite international leaders, scholars, and cultural influencers.
The festivities will continue on November 15 in Croydon with an international trade fair and cultural gala. The event aims to highlight the vibrant essence of Balijatra by showcasing Odia culture, music, art, and traditions. Organizers emphasize the importance of bringing this rich heritage to a global audience.
Bibhuti Bhusan Pattnayak, OSUK’s organizing secretary, stated that this landmark event will elevate Odisha’s maritime legacy and cultural pride on the world stage. The initiative is a collaboration with Xpertnest, led by British-Odia entrepreneur Arun Kar.
Sweta Mohanty, a spokesperson for the organizing committee, noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often highlighted India’s historical maritime connections. The Bali Jatra UK 2025 aims to foster dialogue on ancient trade and civilizational heritage, inviting Indian and British parliamentarians, UK royal family members, and business leaders to participate.
