Hydrogen fuel cell integrator Genevos has entered a letter of intent with India’s SSBI Group and its division, SSB Green Enviro, to develop large-scale hydrogen solutions aimed at transforming the Indian maritime sector. This partnership plans to deploy over 50 hydrogen-powered vessels in India over the next decade.
Genevos will provide fully integrated marine-certified hydrogen fuel cell power solutions, ranging from low-power systems (HPM-40 kW) to high-power options (HPM-250 kW). The collaboration will cover various vessel types, including harbor workboats and passenger ferries, tailored for Indian maritime conditions.
Immediate steps include conducting feasibility studies, technical designs, and pilot deployments starting in 2026, with multiple vessels expected by 2027. Rebecca Sharp, CEO of Genevos, expressed pride in collaborating with SSB Green Enviro to advance a clean hydrogen-powered future for India’s maritime industry, emphasizing the potential for systemic change in global shipping.
Saptarshi Simlai, Director of SSBI Group, highlighted that this partnership aligns with the Indian government’s initiatives to accelerate the hydrogen economy, marking a significant milestone in their mission to promote sustainable development.
