India’s energy supply chain achieved a key milestone as the LPG carrier Nanda Devi arrived safely at Vadinar port in Gujarat, delivering 46,500 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas after navigating the increasingly volatile Strait of Hormuz. This successful transit, the second in a matter of days, reassures energy planners monitoring tensions in the region.

Upon docking in the Devbhumi Dwarka district, preparations began for a ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of the cargo to the daughter vessel, BW Birch. This transfer will facilitate distribution to industrial and domestic consumers in Tamil Nadu and Haldia, ensuring vital energy resources reach various parts of the country.

Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Deendayal Port Authority, confirmed that the transfer will move at approximately 1,000 tonnes per hour and is expected to be completed within two days.

This successful delivery follows proactive diplomatic efforts from New Delhi to secure safe passage for Indian vessels amidst rising tensions in West Asia. India aims to ensure the transport of around 270,000 tonnes of LPG, crucial for the country’s energy security, considering the critical role of the Hormuz Strait in global energy supply.
