Adani Gangavaram Port Limited (AGPL) has set a significant milestone in Indian marine operations by berthing the deepest-drafted vessel in its history. The vessel, carrying 177,121 metric tonnes of bauxite from Vedanta Limited, arrived with an 18.2-metre draft, exceeding AGPL’s previous record of 18.12 metres. Following efficient cargo handling, the vessel departed, showcasing AGPL’s capacity for high-volume and complex cargo operations, backed by robust infrastructure and advanced coordination among port and customer teams.
This achievement highlights AGPL’s customer-first approach, exemplified by close collaboration with Vedanta Limited. The partnership ensured optimal berthing and quick turnaround, translating into cost savings and smoother supply chains for industries reliant on large-scale raw material imports. Furthermore, these efficiencies contribute to a reduced environmental footprint for each tonne handled.
Strategically located in Visakhapatnam, AGPL plays a vital role in supporting India’s industrial growth by serving mineral-rich regions across Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. By accommodating larger vessels, AGPL enhances economies of scale, boosting India’s competitiveness in global trade. Over the years, the port has made significant investments in deep-water berths and mechanised cargo handling systems, ensuring readiness for current and future trade demands.
