Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the pension scheme for Goan seafarers will be made permanent during the Seafarers’ Day event organized by the Goan Seamen Association of India. He emphasized the importance of seafarers to Goa, stating they embody a century-old tradition. Additionally, he promised that if the BJP is re-elected in 2027, the pension amount would increase by ₹1,000.
Currently, the Goa government provides retired seafarers and widows with a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 through the Goa Seafarers Welfare Pension Scheme. Sawant also revealed plans to introduce skill training courses aimed at preparing local youth for careers in maritime operations. This initiative is designed to enhance employment opportunities and equip the Goan workforce with essential skills for the global shipping industry.
During the event, seafarers with 25 years of service were honored, recognizing their significant contributions to both the state and the nation. The government’s commitment to supporting seafarers reflects a broader effort to sustain and enrich Goa’s maritime legacy.
