HD Hyundai has entered a strategic partnership with the Government of India to support its ambitious “Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047,” which aims to launch significant shipbuilding projects. During a recent meeting at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center in Gyeonggi Province, Chairman Chung Ki-sun and India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, discussed potential collaborations in shipbuilding, fleet expansion, and technological advancements.

The Indian delegation included prominent officials such as Ambassador Gurjit Singh and several joint secretaries from various ministries, alongside industry leaders from ONGC and Cochin Shipyard. They were presented with insights into HD Hyundai’s cutting-edge ship design, construction technologies, and innovative smart shipyard systems. The discussions emphasized enhancing India’s shipbuilding capabilities, workforce skill development, and modernization of maritime infrastructure.

This collaboration is aligned with India’s vision to grow its commercial fleet from 1,500 to 2,500 vessels, backed by a USD 24 billion investment and government support of USD 8 billion for new initiatives. Earlier, HD Hyundai had signed a memorandum of understanding with Cochin Shipyard Limited, focusing on ship design and productivity enhancements, reinforcing their commitment to India’s ₩13 trillion landing ship project.

Chairman Chung expressed HD Hyundai’s dedication to becoming a pivotal partner in developing India’s shipbuilding industry, while Minister Puri highlighted the importance of this partnership for realizing India’s maritime goals. To further solidify this collaboration, the Indian delegation plans to visit HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan Shipyard on November 14 to observe ship construction operations firsthand.
