The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Saksham, an offshore patrol vessel, recently docked at Port Victoria, Seychelles, for a three-day visit with the goal of enhancing maritime cooperation and building regional partnerships. This visit highlights India’s dedication to maritime security and collaboration in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
During their stay, the crew of ICGS Saksham will participate in various activities, including meetings with local officials, joint training exercises, and friendly sports events with Seychelles counterparts. These engagements are intended to improve interoperability, promote mutual learning, and reinforce the longstanding maritime relationship between India and Seychelles.
As part of their community outreach efforts, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets on board will take part in a Walkathon and a beach cleanup drive as part of the ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ initiative, focusing on environmental sustainability and marine conservation. Additionally, 10 personnel from Assam Rifles aboard the vessel will collaborate with other agencies to enhance their understanding of maritime operations and build camaraderie among the forces.
Following its visit to Seychelles, ICGS Saksham will head to Madagascar as part of its overseas deployment plan. This deployment aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance Coast Guard collaboration across the Indian Ocean Region, further solidifying maritime security efforts in the area.
