Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), India’s leading shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company, has partnered with the Indian Maritime University (IMU) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration is designed to enhance maritime education, research, and skill development, preparing future professionals for opportunities in India’s expanding maritime sectors.
The MoU was executed by SDHI Advisor Rajeev Nayyer and IMU Controller of Examinations Cmde. K. D. Joshi during a recent event at IMU’s Chennai campus. The signing ceremony featured dignitaries including Rajesh Kumar Sinha, IAS, and Dr. Malini V. Shankar, IAS (Retd.), highlighting its significance as a precursor to the upcoming India Maritime Week 2025.
The initiative aims to bolster India’s maritime ambitions and cultivate a skilled workforce. SDHI’s commitment aligns with enhancing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities in response to global demands. The partners will establish specialized Centres of Excellence at SDHI’s shipyard and IMU campuses, focusing on training and innovation in shipbuilding and naval architecture.
Rajeev Nayyer emphasized the importance of merging academic expertise with industrial strength, aiming to nurture the next generation of maritime professionals to promote India’s self-reliance and competitiveness in the sector.
