India’s maritime landscape took a significant step forward as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) launched India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 in Mumbai. This event underscored India’s commitment to creating a sustainable and digitally connected maritime ecosystem, marked by nearly ₹55,000 crore in strategic MoUs involving Indian and international partners. Notable attendees included ministers and delegates from over ten countries, highlighting the global interest in India’s maritime ambitions.

A pivotal moment was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Cooperation with the Netherlands, which aims to establish a Green and Digital Sea Corridor. This initiative will link major Indian ports with Rotterdam and focus on clean marine fuels and innovations in port logistics. Additional partnerships included financing initiatives, technology collaborations, and research projects to enhance India’s maritime capabilities.

During the event, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized India’s vision for a clean and competitive maritime future, while Minister of State Shantanu Thakur highlighted the importance of sustainability and skill development. Concurrent sessions explored ship financing, with discussions on innovative models to unlock India’s $1 trillion maritime potential.

The Goa State Session also launched significant projects, reinforcing India’s leadership in sustainable maritime growth through regional collaborations and investments totaling over ₹9,688 crore.
