India has initiated the construction of its first AI-equipped patrol vessel, designed to enhance maritime security and facilitate multi-role operations within its exclusive economic zone. This vessel, named the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), is set to play a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders.

Measuring 384 feet (117 meters) in length and displacing approximately 2,700 tons, the NGOPV will accommodate up to 121 personnel. It is engineered for efficiency, boasting a top speed of 23 knots (43 kilometers/26 miles per hour) and a range of 5,000 nautical miles (9,260 kilometers/5,754 miles), enabling it to conduct rapid responses and extended patrols in contested waters.

This development underscores India’s commitment to modernizing its naval capabilities in response to evolving maritime threats.
