India Highlights Maritime History During IALA Summit

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, opened the 3rd Session of the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA) in Mumbai, emphasizing India’s growing influence in global maritime standards. The session, hosted from December 8-12, gathers representatives from 42 IALA Council members and delegates from over 30 countries. Sonowal also launched a Digital Ticketing Portal aimed at enhancing access to lighthouse tourism across India.

Highlighting India’s maritime heritage, Sonowal pointed to the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex and a dedicated Lighthouse Museum, underscoring India’s commitment to maritime history and innovation. He stressed the importance of global cooperation in the face of advancing technologies such as autonomous shipping and satellite navigation.

Sonowal noted significant national maritime initiatives under the Maritime India Vision 2030, focusing on infrastructure, sustainable shipping, and digital transformation. He affirmed India’s dedication to safe and sustainable navigation, stating, “Aids to navigation remain central to maritime safety,” with ongoing investments in modern systems.

The hosting of IALA’s session reflects India’s commitment to enhancing international maritime cooperation and proactive participation in setting global safety standards, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a robust maritime future.
