On November 25, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) of Andaman and Nicobar Command made history by apprehending a Myanmarese fishing boat named “Soe Wai Yan Htoo” in the Andaman seas. The boat was found to be carrying approximately 5500 kgs of prohibited drug Methamphetamine, with an estimated value of thousands of crores in the international market. The ICG’s surveillance efforts in the Andaman Sea led to the detection and interception of the suspicious boat by the ICG Ship Aruna Asaf Ali.

Despite rough sea conditions, the ICG Ship successfully intercepted the Myanmarese boat and discovered the contraband onboard. The boat was brought to Sri Vijaya Puram for further investigation, where local authorities confirmed the substance as pure Methamphetamine worth thousands of crores. This operation marks one of the biggest drug hauls in Indian maritime history, showcasing the commitment of the ICG to safeguarding territorial integrity and preventing illegal trafficking activities.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command remains vigilant in ensuring the safety of the region’s waters through enhanced patrolling and intelligence-sharing efforts.
