Indian seafarers in West Asia are reported to be safe, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels in the last 48 hours, according to the Shipping Ministry. During a joint briefing on developments in the Gulf region, Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, confirmed that all Indian vessels and crews in the Persian Gulf are under close observation. Currently, 18 Indian vessels with approximately 485 seafarers are in the area, and over 964 seafarers have been repatriated.
Mangal assured that port operations in India are running smoothly, with no congestion reported in the past day. The DG Shipping communication center has been active, responding to 70 calls and 245 emails within 24 hours. The ministry is coordinating closely with various stakeholders to ensure the safety of Indian nationals abroad.
In light of the ongoing security situation in West Asia, around 598,000 passengers have returned to India. A recent incident in Dubai involving debris from an interception resulted in minor injuries to three Indian nationals, and the consulate is providing necessary assistance. The flight situation is improving, with about 90 flights expected to operate from the UAE to India today. The Central Government is taking proactive measures to maintain stability and support maritime operations in the region.
