JNPA Container Throughput Growth Led by BMCT Surge

JNPA records 12.86% growth of the freight throughput for July 2025

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s premier container hub, experienced a significant 12.86% rise in freight throughput in July 2025, reaching 8.51 million tons, up from 7.54 million tons the previous year. Container traffic also surged by 10.80%, totaling 668,336 TEUs, compared to 603,217 TEUs in July 2024. The Bharti Mukund Container Terminal (BMCT) excelled with an impressive 36.80% increase in throughput, handling 231,104 TEUs.

The monthly container throughput across terminals featured notable performances: APM Terminals (APMT) registered 189,520 TEUs (+1.95% month-on-month), while Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) reported 109,977 TEUs (+10.42%). Conversely, Nhava Sheva Indira Gateway (NSET) saw a decline of 5.75% with 91,819 TEUs.

In the fiscal year from April to July 2025, JNPA managed 2.618 million TEUs, reflecting a 14.28% year-over-year growth, alongside a 10.73% increase in overall freight to 32.71 million tons. Rail operations also strengthened, with JNPA dispatching 2,410 container rakes, moving 390,597 TEUs, a rise from the previous year’s figures.

Established in 1989, JNPA oversees five container terminals and remains crucial in enhancing India’s maritime trade, with BMCT playing a pivotal role in its ongoing success.
