JSW Infrastructure, part of the $24 billion JSW Group, has secured a 30-year concession to renovate and operate two berths at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD). This achievement enhances the conglomerate’s commercial ties with Bengal. By agreeing to pay ₹4,678 per container in royalties to the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), JSW surpassed Adani Group in the bidding process.

This project marks JSW’s first foray into port and logistics in Bengal, following their earlier interest in developing the Tajpur port, which was won by Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ). Additionally, it’s the second investment initiative for the Jindal-led Group in Bengal for 2025, after their commitment to a ₹16,000 crore thermal power project at Salboni.

The estimated cost for modernizing berths 7 and 8, along with reconstructing berth 8 at NSD, is ₹698.84 crore. The renovated berths are expected to handle approximately 448,140 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, with potential for capacity expansion in the future.
