Maharashtra Aims for Sustainable Port Development and Global Maritime Leadership

The Maharashtra Maritime Summit 2025, hosted by Times Network in collaboration with the Maharashtra Maritime Board and the Government of Maharashtra, focused on sustainable port-led development. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid out Maharashtra’s maritime vision aligned with India’s 2030 and 2047 goals, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships, smart technology, and improved connectivity for economic growth.

Key figures at the summit included Nitesh Rane, Minister of Ports & Fisheries, and industry leaders like Ashwani Gupta from Adani Ports. Fadnavis emphasized the necessity of enhancing port capacity and efficiency, citing initiatives like the Samruddhi Mahamarg, which drastically shortens cargo delivery times. He also announced the revival of the Vadhavan Port project, which aims to rank among the world’s top ten ports, enhancing Maharashtra’s maritime ecosystem.

Rane reiterated the state’s maritime potential, highlighting significant investments and partnerships aimed at globalizing Maharashtra’s maritime ambitions. The newly launched Shipbuilding Policy 2025 aims to foster a robust marine manufacturing sector, while projects like the Mumbai Water Metro seek to improve urban water transport. The summit underscored Maharashtra’s commitment to becoming a pivotal player in India’s maritime landscape.
