Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) is advancing towards a low-carbon maritime future by launching its first methanol bunkering simulator at the BSM Maritime Training Center in Kochi. Developed in collaboration with Wärtsilä, this simulator aims to equip seafarers with essential skills for safely handling methanol, a promising clean fuel. BSM’s commitment to training will further strengthen in early 2026 with the rollout of an ammonia-bunker simulation module, enhancing operational safety and environmental responsibility.
This initiative is part of BSM’s long-term strategy to cultivate expertise in operating new carbon-neutral ships. By the end of 2025, additional methanol simulators will be introduced in Poland and the Philippines, expanding BSM’s global training capacity. The Kochi simulator will incorporate comprehensive training on LNG, methanol, and ammonia, which are key alternative fuels for maritime decarbonization.
BSM’s proactive investments in training and simulator technology align with its operational fleet growth, marking the management of its first methanol-fueled vessels this year. As the global demand for methanol ships is set to rise—over 350 expected by 2030—BSM is also focusing on enhancing trainer capabilities. Through participation in specialized training programs, BSM ensures its personnel can safely manage these new fuels, thereby preparing for future challenges in sustainable shipping.
