Mormugao Port has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first accredited green port in India, as announced by Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) Chairman N. Vinodkumar during a roadshow preceding India Maritime Week 2025.

This certification follows Mormugao’s pioneering initiative to provide incentives and tariff discounts to vessels based on their Environmental Ship Index (ESI) scores, aligning with global efforts to minimize air emissions from shipping.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, the port has launched a 3 MW solar power plant, with plans to expand its capacity to 5 MW. This project is being developed in collaboration with the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) to further decrease the port’s carbon footprint.
