Mundra Port, India’s largest commercial port and part of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), has achieved a significant milestone by exporting advanced locomotives to Morebaya, Guinea. This marks a pivotal moment for Indian manufacturing and aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The inaugural shipment included four state-of-the-art locomotives produced by Wabtec Locomotive Pvt Ltd in Marhowrah, Bihar, and dispatched via the vessel MV BBC Washington. This is just the beginning, as Wabtec plans to export a total of 150 locomotives through Mundra Port.
To meet international standard gauge requirements, the locomotives underwent a bogie conversion at APSEZ’s Agri Park rail siding in Mundra, utilizing advanced equipment for a meticulous process. An APSEZ official emphasized the port’s capability in managing complex industrial shipments, showcasing their commitment to high service standards.
Exports are set to continue at a rate of one to two locomotives monthly, enhancing India’s position in the global rail equipment market. This initiative underscores the efficacy of India’s integrated supply chain, highlighting the nation’s readiness to compete on the global stage in engineering and logistics.
