Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Government of India, visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s top port, where he was welcomed by Unmesh Sharad Wagh, the Chairman of JNPA. Wagh provided an update on the progress of the Vadhvan Port project, highlighting its strategic significance in enhancing India’s maritime commerce.
At the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University and Vadhvan Project Limited to develop tailored programs for port operations and generate employment opportunities for students. Additionally, an agreement was made between VPPL and ITD Cementation India Ltd. for construction work at the Greenfield Vadhvan port.
Thakur engaged in discussions with key stakeholders to gather insights on the evolving needs of the Indian maritime sector and discuss strategic initiatives to enhance trade processes. He emphasized the importance of port infrastructure in driving economic growth and enhancing India’s global competitiveness through projects like Vadhvan Port.
During his visit, Thakur inaugurated the construction of an entrance building at JN Port and toured GTI, a leading container terminal, to learn about terminal operations. His visit showcased the government’s commitment to developing guidelines and infrastructure to bolster the maritime industry and position India as a key player in global trade.
