New Maritime Ventures Propel Odisha’s Industrial Growth

In a strategic initiative to strengthen Odisha’s maritime and industrial landscape, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled ambitious projects, including the establishment of a National Shipbuilding Cluster in Kendrapara and a deep-water port at Bahuda in Ganjam district. These developments aim to position Odisha as a center of maritime excellence.

The state’s aspirations received a significant boost with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), Odisha Maritime Board (OMB), and Sagarmala Finance Corporation. This agreement outlines plans for the Bahuda satellite port, which will require an investment of ₹21,500 crore.

In addition, another MoU has been signed for a world-class shipbuilding cluster along the Mahanadi riverbank in Kendrapara, with an estimated cost of ₹24,700 crore. The presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the signing events highlighted the central government’s backing for these initiatives. Chief Minister Majhi expressed his gratitude on social media, acknowledging the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sonowal in revitalizing Odisha’s maritime sector.

These projects are poised to significantly enhance the region’s economic landscape and create new opportunities in the maritime industry.
