On September 20, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat to oversee the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal. The NMHC, which has a budget of approximately ₹4,500 crore, aims to honor and preserve India’s ancient maritime traditions while serving as a hub for tourism, research, education, and skill development.
Earlier that day, during the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for various development projects totaling over ₹34,200 crore. This included significant maritime initiatives, such as the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock and a new container terminal at Kolkata’s Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port. Additional projects included enhancements at Paradip Port, coastal protection works at Chennai Port, and ship repair facilities in Patna and Varanasi.
In alignment with his vision for comprehensive and sustainable development, the Prime Minister also initiated projects worth over ₹26,354 crore, in collaboration with state governments. These projects span multiple sectors in Gujarat, including the HPLNG Regasification Terminal at Chhara Port and various renewable energy initiatives, showcasing a commitment to advancing infrastructure and public services across the region.
