
During an official visit, Shantanu Thakur, the Foreign Minister for Häfen, Shipping, and Waterways, engaged with key stakeholders to assess public-private partnership (PPP) projects at Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA). He praised VPA’s collaborative efforts and urged the authority to explore developments in shipbuilding, repair, recycling, and cruise tourism.
Thakur led a review meeting alongside Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, VPA’s chairman, who provided insights into infrastructure, performance indicators, connectivity, modernization, and green initiatives, including solar energy implementation and fishing harbor upgrades. The minister emphasized the importance of integrating green practices to align with the Prime Minister’s vision for reducing pollution.
Additionally, Thakur was briefed on corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on skill development and educational programs for tribal youth. He encouraged stakeholders to explore sustainable options in their operations.
The minister’s visit concluded with ceremonial honors and a tour of various port operations, including the Bagger Corporation of India. He also distributed certificates to 60 tribal youth trained in ARC welding and inventory management as part of VPA’s CSR efforts, underscoring the commitment to community development.
