Seatrium Offshore Technology has established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), India’s foremost shipbuilder, to enhance collaboration in the offshore sector throughout India and Asia. This partnership will primarily focus on maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) projects for clients operating in the region, while also exploring opportunities to penetrate other significant offshore markets.

Winston Cheng, Senior Vice-President and Head of SOT, remarked that this MoU marks a pivotal step in Seatrium’s strategy to broaden its global presence, with India identified as a crucial market for sustainable growth. The country’s rapidly evolving offshore energy sector and increasing demand for maritime infrastructure create significant opportunities for innovation and collaboration. By leveraging CSL’s strong local capabilities alongside Seatrium’s engineering expertise, the partnership aims to provide integrated offshore asset solutions that align with regional needs.

The MoU establishes a framework for joint marketing, project execution, and technology collaboration, fostering a long-term relationship with CSL to support regional energy transition and offshore development. This agreement builds on a prior collaboration from November 2024, which involved the joint design and supply of essential equipment for jack-up rigs catering to the Indian market.

As one of the world’s largest energy consumers, India is actively enhancing both onshore and offshore resources to improve energy security amidst rapid industrialization and urbanization. According to the International Energy Agency, India is projected to lead global oil demand growth, reaching an estimated 6.6 million barrels per day by 2030.
