During the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW-2025) in Mumbai, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) announced investment agreements totaling ₹39,216 crore, highlighting India’s maritime ambitions and attracting delegates from over 100 countries.
A significant agreement was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop a port-cum-shipbuilding and repair cluster at Dugarajapatnam, involving ₹29,662 crore. This project aims to create massive employment opportunities and enhance self-reliance under the Make in India initiative, while establishing modern infrastructure for the maritime sector. Discussions were also held with HD Korean Shipbuilders regarding the project’s technical aspects.
Additional partnerships include an MoU with MECON India for ₹3,000 crore to improve multimodal logistics through stack yards and railway sidings, and collaborations with NBCC, HUDCO, and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. to enhance port functionality and use advanced eco-friendly technologies.
The VPA launched a land monetisation program aimed at attracting new investments and optimising assets, which aligns with national policies focused on sustainability and green shipping. IMW-2025 underscored India’s commitment to becoming a global maritime hub by fostering innovation and international cooperation.
