Adani Vizhinjam Port Company has received initial approval from the Customs and Central Excise Department to manage export-import (EXIM) cargo and domestic trade at Vizhinjam Port. Final clearance from the Kochi Customs Commissionerate is anticipated soon, following necessary procedural steps.
This approval positions Vizhinjam as a new gateway for global trade, attracting major customs broking firms that are planning to establish offices at the port. A dedicated customs office has already begun operations in the port’s utility building near the harbour.
Domestic export operations will commence once road connectivity to the national highway is completed. Work on widening service roads for container truck access is currently underway, with a completion target set for December 2025.
In the meantime, the port plans to initiate trial operations in October, utilizing existing routes for limited domestic cargo. Initial feasibility tests for night-time container movement via Mullur Road are also being scheduled. This milestone significantly advances Vizhinjam’s goal of becoming a world-class transshipment hub, thereby enhancing India’s maritime trade and logistics capabilities.
