The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has been honored with the ‘Green Visionary Award’ at the India Maritime Week 2025, recognizing its exceptional dedication to environmental sustainability and leadership in port decarbonization efforts. This accolade highlights VOCPA’s innovative initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable practices and establishing new standards for green transformation among Indian ports.
The award was presented to VOCPA Chairman Susanta Kumar Purohit and Deputy Chairman Rajesh Soundrarajan by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, during a ceremony attended by Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur and Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Vijay Kumar.
During the event, IIM Calcutta also presented a detailed case study on VOC Port in Tuticorin, showcasing its sustainability journey and achievements in renewable energy and eco-friendly operations. This case study serves to emphasize VOC Port’s commitment to environmental stewardship through various initiatives, including enhanced use of renewable energy, sustainable port operations, and the development of green infrastructure.
