CAIRO – February 23, 2025: The Head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, announced that 47 ships have rerouted through the Suez Canal since the start of the month, reflecting positive signs of stability in the Red Sea region. This statement was made during his speech at the 14th Annual International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference (Marlog 2025), organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport.

Rabie highlighted the significant security challenges facing the Red Sea, which threaten the stability of global supply chains. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to address these issues and ensure uninterrupted maritime services. The SCA has maintained effective communication with shipping lines and has adapted its services, including ship maintenance and pollution control, to support operators during this crisis.

Despite facing challenges, Rabie confirmed that the canal is advancing its development plans with government support. Recent enhancements, including the completion of a major infrastructure project, have improved navigational safety and increased capacity by 6-8 ships daily. He also announced the establishment of a factory for floating concrete pontoons in Egypt, significantly reducing costs for local production compared to imports.

At the conference’s conclusion, Rabie toured the pavilion for SCA-affiliated companies at the IME 2025 Marine Services and Equipment Exhibition, which featured local and international participants in various maritime sectors.
