The Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) have intercepted nearly 65 kg of cocaine, valued at over A$21 million ($14 million), from a shipping container in Brisbane. The shipment originated from Panama and was falsely declared as containing 20 packages of wooden slats.
Upon x-raying the container, officers detected unusual anomalies in the flooring, leading to the discovery of 108 bricks of a white substance wrapped in black plastic. Further investigation with the help of ABF detector dogs confirmed the presence of narcotics, which were later identified as cocaine through forensic testing.
AFP acting Superintendent Shane Scott emphasized the potential danger of this significant cocaine haul, stating it could have resulted in 324,000 street-level deals, posing a serious threat to the Australian community.
Investigations into the shipment’s origin are currently ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details about the trafficking operation.
