The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported an incident occurring 15 nautical miles north of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. A cargo ship’s master notified the authorities about an explosion resulting from an unidentified projectile near the vessel.
Fortunately, all crew members aboard the ship are reported safe. Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. In light of the event, UKMTO has advised vessels in the area to navigate with caution and to report any suspicious activities they may encounter.
This incident adds to a series of attacks on ships in or near the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime passage. Tensions have escalated since Iran began closing this vital waterway in response to US-Israeli military actions against Iran that commenced on February 28.
Maritime security remains a significant concern in the region as authorities work to ensure the safety of shipping routes and address the ongoing threats to vessels operating in these waters. The situation continues to develop as investigations proceed.
