Women from across the Caribbean convened in Paramaribo, Suriname, from November 3 to 5 for a workshop organized by the Women in Maritime Association, Caribbean (WiMAC). The event aimed to enhance the association’s accomplishments and ensure its long-term viability in the maritime sector. With 34 participants from 12 countries, the workshop focused on equipping attendees with strategic tools to achieve financial sustainability for their association.
The sessions were designed to foster gender-responsive strategies, enabling participants to create and implement sustainable funding models. Practical skill development was a key component, with a strong emphasis on enhancing leadership capabilities. A highlight of the workshop was a Public Speaking Masterclass led by keynote speaker K.D. Adamson, which aimed to improve personal impact and foster authentic communication skills crucial for career advancement and effective representation in the maritime industry.
The outcomes of this workshop are anticipated to significantly bolster WiMAC’s development and support ongoing initiatives, backed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), to enhance women’s roles in the Caribbean maritime sector. By focusing on these critical areas, WiMAC seeks to solidify its operational foundation and broaden its influence throughout the region.
