CMA CGM has marked a significant milestone with the delivery of its 400th owned vessel, the CMA CGM Monte Cristo. This ship is the first in a series of six methanol-powered container ships, aligning with the company’s decarbonization strategy. The Monte Cristo boasts a capacity of 16,204 TEU, including approximately 1,000 reefer plugs, and measures 366 meters in length and 51 meters in width. It will operate under the Maltese flag and is set to commence commercial service on January 29, 2026, from Ningbo as part of the BEX2 – Phoenician Express route, connecting North Asia to the Levant and Adriatic Sea.
The vessel is crewed by 23 seafarers and is commanded by Captain Predrag Vojvodic. With this addition, CMA CGM now has 11 methanol container ships in its fleet and a total of 24 such vessels on order. The Monte Cristo was constructed at DSIC Tianjin Shipyard, with its naming ceremony held on January 21, 2026, where Liu Liping, Deputy General Manager of EPPEN BIOTECH, served as godmother.
This achievement underscores CMA CGM’s commitment to sustainable shipping through advanced technology and asset ownership.
